Paige Harding, a Dodge City native, became passionate about the fight to end Alzheimer’s when her grandmother developed Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 57. Throughout her grandmother’s journey, Paige witnessed how Alzheimer’s affected her entire family and how it will affect her family for generations to come. Paige has participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s for the past 12 years, served as a board member for the Topeka Walk for the past 2 years, served as a community educator, and her favorite endeavor has been the creation of Purple Pals. Paige founded Purple Pals at the University of Kansas in January 2019. Purple Pals connects college students to people in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease for enrichment, while giving caregivers a chance to care for themselves. Paige is ecstatic that Purple Pals has continued at KU and is working on expanding to Fort Hays State University, Pittsburg State University, Washburn University, and Oklahoma State University. Paige hopes Purple Pals will be at colleges all across Kansas within the next few years and maybe someday the entire nation. In addition to her work with Alzheimer’s disease, Paige is currently in her second year at Washburn University School of Law. She is the current Miss Kansas Volunteer and will take her platform of Alzheimer’s disease with her to the Miss Volunteer America pageant held in Jackson, Tennessee in June…(read more at source)
