As the saying goes, “You win some, you lose some.” But it would appear the winning and the losing varies from person to person, or in the case of international beauty pageants, from country to country.

Defying the law of averages, some nations have a much higher rate of success when they reach the latter stages of pageants, while conversely other countries are often left holding the runner-up bouquet.

This video honours the latter group – the unlucky nations that despite winning some of the time, have experienced much more heartbreak on Big 4 international pageant stages.

  1. the very 1st Miss Universe and Miss International queens married Filipino millionaires…KUUSELA remained married till her husband's death in 1974..and STELLA ARANETA is still very much married to her Filipino husband of 63yrs..Miss EARTH 2004 is also happily married to a Filipino actor

  2. Luckily Mexico won Miss World 2018 after being in top 5 many times, deserving the title in 2005 and 2009. Since 2017 is been in top 5 and top 12 and I hope will win again this year because the Mexican queen has many followers and won another international title already. I would like that Mexico wins Miss Earth some day but has only won an element title twice. Well, I hope Mexico wins MGI soon because it really deserved it in 2019. I'm sure that Mexico is so close to win the second MW crown than other pageant crowns.

  3. I don't honestly know why Brazil wastes time taking part in these pageants… Seriously! When we won the 2nd Miss Universe crown, most powerhouses (Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Philippines had won NONE). Time has passed, they've won several titles and we're left just clapping.

When Miss Earth was created, we won it twice. No one had won it more than us. Again, time passed, we never won it again and other countries have overtaken us.

In 2023, a brand new pageant was created – Miss Charm – and guess what: Brazil won it! Do you want to bet that time will pass and we'll win nothing again? 🙂

In Miss Universe''s case, there seems to be a slight ''non-liking'' towards us. In 1993, people in Mexico were in awe when Leila Schuster wore a brilliant white dress. Everyone thought she would win… She didn't even make it to the top 5.

In 2017, Raissa Santana was considered by every pageant blogger I read the frontrunner alongside France's candidate. They were always top 2, with Raissa usually getting the #1 spot on the prediction lists. One blogger said something at the time that struck with me: "Raíssa stands out and is being considered the name to beat. She's got such an overwhelming lead on so many people's list that I have a terrifying feeling that something is going to happen and she won't win''… I guess the guy was a psychic. She was flawless but had to do the swimsuit part of the competition alongside the obese Miss Canada. The difference was startling. That said, Leila Lopes (angolan miss universe, crowned in Brazil!) and Perez Hilton both said that CANADA had stood out… Sorry, but no… It was the beginning of wokeness showing up at the pageants… WHat happened? Gorgeous Raíssa and her killer body didn't make it to the top 9. Canada did. Oh, and France won. At least 1 top 2 prediction was correct.

So, honestly, why waste time taking part in these competitions? I honestly don't know. Sorry for the venting! 🙂

  4. Hi! I am not sure if someone already pointed this out but at 15:21, I think you accidently put Yasmin Daji's picture above Iona Pinto's name. Yasmin Daji was the 3rd runner up during the Miss Universe 1966 pageant I believe.
Nevertheless, great content and editing! I always make sure to watch every single video 🙂

  5. if you consider them the unluckiest country what do you called the country's representative that from the start of the beauty contest they were never landed even in the top 5😱😱😱😫😩😱🤣🤣🤣

  6. There are excessive beauty pageants today. What's the difference anyway. However, it is the Ms. UNIVERSE,Ms. WORLD and Ms. INTERNATIONAL that seems the most prestigious and most popular among interested viewing clienteles around the world!!!

  7. Love your in-depth and statistics on Miss Universe. Any chance you'd do a video on miss universe height? Tallest/shortest winners and/or tallest contestants? I know Miss Venezuela 1994, Minorka Mercado was 6'2".

  8. Hi there!. I've been waiting your reaction a bout the previous MUP 2023 and i'm sure your happy Michelle Dee won the crown. Remember last year (smile)… what's your thoughts on this thanks…

  9. I enjoy watching your videos as I consider myself somewhat of a pageant nerd as well. I just want to add that Jamaica has won Miss World four times and was the first runner up in the 2010 edition of Miss Universe.

  10. Unlike VENEZUELAN women, I've always loved COLOMBIA and it's beautifully non-surgically enhanced women (my wife is Colombian and gorgeous without any surgeries…like me!!!). However, in the PAST, COLOMBIA has always had to compete with neighboring VENEZUELA's wealthy oil/gas image…and the fact that VENEZUELA always performed PLASTIC SURGERY on their contestants (something VENEZUELA always DENIED until technology/Internet exposed their blatant lies). Today, COLOMBIA is one of the wealthier SOUTH AMERICAN/LATIN countries with an incredible economy and an awesome health-care system (better than the USA, Australia and Germany) while VENEZUELA is dirt POOR and many of it's citizens live in COLOMBIA (6 Million/20% of Venezuela's population lives in COLOMBIA). Had pageant judges been better informed, COLOMBIA would have won over "PLASTIC/FAKE" Venezuela. To me, natural beauty speaks for itself and plastic surgery is CHEATING!!!

  11. Hello TPN. I hope you can feature these please…

    – First to be called in semifinals who became title winners
    – Last spot to be called in semifinals who became title winners.

Thank you TPN! I really love your stats and lists! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

  12. Colombia & Venezuela are the top 2 countries that send in the Most Gorgeous Delegates – yet somehow fail to excel in the Q& A.

The Countries powerful in.the Q&A are South Africa, India Phillippines & Vietnam…….followed by Thailand & USA.

There's a change in the recent decade – Intelligence is now Recognised as well as Confidence .

Was it the Owner… The Judges …..The Fans….that brought this change about ???
I would think so…especially the Latter

  13. 🥰🥰🥰🥰I love Hispanic-Latina looks! Latinas or Hispanic are the most gorgeous women on Earth! The Philippines was a 336th colony of Spain; 5 years Dutch occupation; 5 years British attack; 2 years French invasion, Jewish Diaspora during World War 2 and 52 years American Territory.

  14. This is misleading as you mostly basis their misfortune on Miss Universe but not on other pageants… eg. yes Denmark might have been 1st runner up in all the other pageants but Denmark won the inaugural Miss Earth in 2001 so somehow this title is somehow misleading as you base only on Miss Universe…

  15. Thank you for putting this all together. The statistics are indeed very interesting! In terms of performance at the international level, what do you think are the main factors as to why certain countries' representatives never seem to place? Do you think that in some cases it might be political in nature? Or do you think that those contestants might not have the same level of coaching/polish as the pageant powerhouse nations?

  16. Trivia…. did you know the very first Miss Universe Armi Kuusela's husband was a Filipino businessman named Virgilio Hilario. Just wanted to share hehehe =D
