As a Black woman, it's always difficult to watch us in the makeover episodes. There was never any care or thought put into how much inherent trauma there is when it comes to Black women's hair. It can be a lot.
Brita wasn't even fat for back then's standards. God no wonder us millennial women all have disordered eating! And I am sorry but I would not be nice if someone shaved my head, you ain't making me look like a Manson sister.

The weigh-ins are so wild. Everyone except maybe Britta (the “fat one”) is literally underweight for their height in terms of health. No wonder us millennials who came of age with this had such high rates of eating disorders.

The only time any of those girls looked 'ugly' was when these 'experts' did a sh** job of doing their hair, makeup, and subpar setup of the 'aliens' shoot. Amiright?

One thing that clicked, was that they purchased a very large warehouse in the middle of nowhere in LA. Refurnished it to be the house for the girls and the set for judging. And I’m guessing the rest of production.

I find something of these critiques so stupid because the judges were just being hypocrite. They were bitching, but the models couldn't be upset? I'm sure Tyra and the other judges weighed at least 138, but Brita's disgusting for it? IMO, Tyra's hair looked worse than all the models'. They were clocking these girls, but weren't very stunning themselves
I usually think these makeovers look terrible, but Brandy with a shaved head was absolutely STUNNING
I love how the opening scene is the girls walking out of the subway and the talking heads is edited like they think they're actually in New York…except, it's a set. That's not a real subway entrance. So, they crowded the girls into essentially a dead-end cubby and had them emerge like they're coming out of the actual subway in New York to set up the reveal of the cycle being in California.

so basically they sent brita home for being the 'big girl' at a wopping weight of 138lbs (TW – BMI) i looked at the NHS website for bmi using her meassurements I was interested in where that put her. she has a bmi of 20.8 using my calculations, which is the middle/lower middle end of the healthy weight scale. I feel the BMI is flawed in itself anyway as you need drastic meassurements to be underweight and doesnt count for musclemass etc, but even still it's insane what these early shows put girls through to make them self concious bordering on an ED
I get the whole thing about not having an attitude and being easy to work with IN THE REAL WORLD but in reality tv? specially ANTM? They purposely created situations to make Brandy react and then jumped on her for doing so.
Also which one of these judges were EASY TO WORK WITH?? c'mon!! They are all mean girls
Funfact: Kahlen was actually the first girl to be called up not Tiffany, for some reasons they decided to switch her from 1st to 4th in the order. 58:35 you could see that Kahlen wasn't there lol
