  1. This was a historic win, both for Michigan and South Carolina; As Gina went on to become Miss World 1990, and the second American to win that pageant while Carol became first runner up in Miss Universe this year.

  2. Carol Gist, this way, becomes the first black woman to be crowned ever as Miss USA. The first black woman as Miss America was Vanessa Williams in 1984. The first black one as Miss Universe was Trinidad and Tobago's Janelle Commisiong in 1977. And the first black Miss World was Grenada's Jennifer Hosten in 1970.

  3. This year had really really strong contestants. So many contestants could have won. Kentucky, Georgia, Alaska all could have won. And we have the first runner up to Miss Universe and Miss World 1990 on the stage. Wow! Incredible!

  4. In my opinion, 1990 was one of the most competitive in history. Just watching the evening gown competition, it’s top notch all around. When Miss Alaska looks like THAT, you know it’s gonna be one hell of a pageant!

  5. Finally a young lady from another state other than Texas!! I really found it rather odd and even very strange that Every year Miss Texas won !! Five straight years . Then they changed things up by adding extra judges questions and suddenly no Miss Texas win!! Too boot Miss Texas would NOT win this again until the early 2000s . I was really starting to wonder if there was some kind of nefarious business going on in the late 80s with the Miss Texas wins . This has not happened since the 1990 changes came ito being .First ever African – American Miss USA winner too 👏🏻👏🏻👍👍⭐️💐☀️💯

  6. Interesting detail about the city of Wichita. It was also the 20th anniversary of one of the most devastating day in the history of the city. The plane crash that took the life of many football players (University of Wichita) during the season.
