Title: Who said chivalry is dead?
Review: Readers would expect a tale of courtly love and chivalry to be set in medieval Europe. John Reinhard Dizon has set “Tiara” in Northern Ireland in 1998.Berlin Mansfield, a knave turned knight errant embarks on an adventure to rescue his lady, Princess Jennifer of Edinburgh, a high profile pacifist. She has been abducted by terrorists intent on keeping Ireland a divided nation. The story gave me a much better understanding of the Irish question, but it was the heroic love story that enthralled me. Although Jennifer and Berlin do not end up living together, the reader knows he will always be faithful to his lady and that she has a champion for life. Interestingly, Jennifer is a modern version of the name Guinevere, for ever linked to Sir Lancelot, her own true knight..The romantic in me fell in love with the hero, and the escapist revelled in the adventure. I loved it.

Title: Crowned Head Nearly Rolls
Review: Lovely and lovable peace-activist princess is kidnapped, and the plot thickens. Many organizations get involved. Too many for me. There is romance and there is action. Those more interested in the Irish Question than I am will likely enjoy the book more than I did, but most readers will probably at least like it.Well done, not rare.

Title: Blah.
Review: Sorry, just didn’t impress me. I read it hoping the story would get better… it didn’t. Too confusing, too many characters and a weak story. Blah.

Title: It’s hard not to love these bad guys
Review: This story starts off fast, and remains that way for the entire ride. The cast of characters, from henchmen to princesses, feels like an Elmore Leonard script. Princess Jennifer is an obvious play on Diana, with a twist. She lives, and her philandering husband does not. I love the idea of the Prince biting it, and the Princess living on. But more than that, the best twist is the Princess falling in love–with the “bad” guy. At every turn this novel entertains and delights. In the end, it makes you think about why the players are fighting, and what is the real threat to humanity? The thugs who play dirty, or the government agencies who play the same way? If you enjoy crime thrillers, you’ll enjoy this cast of colorful thugs, politicians and downright evil-doers.

Title: The Next Michael Bay movie? Could be.
Review: If you liked the Jason Bourne movies and are a fan of Michael Bay filks, then this book will be right up your alley. The action is incredibly fast paced, scenes moving like bullets out of a machine gun. The characters are what you would expect of an action flick with manly men and feminine women.Set in an alternate world during the times of the Irish troubles when they were working to bring an end to the conflict in Ireland, this novel starts off at a dead run and doesn’t stop. There are a lot of stereotypes to the characters, a lot of information throw at you and you are not quite given a chance to breath before the next bit hits you.I am not normally a reader of this type of fiction but I took a chance. The first part of this novel moves way too quickly, IMO but many readers have obviously loved this book just for that. As you get to the center of the novel things slow down just enough to get a bit of a handle on the characters. It is hard though to find a character that you are rooting for this in novel.I have read many novels where the hero is in fact a villain and enjoyed them but Mansfield just doesn’t quite reach that point for me.The author has done his research and at times that research seems to over shadow the story he is telling. A bit less information on all the various groups tugging apart northern Ireland at the time and a bit more spent on developing the main characters and the plot would make this a read worth everyone’s time. The author has the chops to write something that could catch the eye of any reader who loves this genre. If not for the machine gun pacing and shallow characters I would have given this a five star rating. He needs to put the brakes on from time to time and develop more that main characters of this novel. As it is is suffers from too many shallow characters.A good book that I believe with a little editing could be a great one.
