I hated California's evening gown. Too much cleavage. Texas had the best final answer and should have won. California won because of her looks but she wasn't very impressive with her final answer. I would have ranked the girls this way based on their answers to the final question: 4- South Carolina …her answer did not have the depth it should have. 3 – California…pageant Patty rehearsed answer. 2 Louisiana – More well thought out on Education than California. 1 runner up – Nirth Dakota …Very beautiful young lady with a well thought out answer. Winner – Texas…Best answer…anyone who gives God the credit for everything has my vote! The best part of this pageant was Terri Utley's final walk and the crowning of Julie Hayek. She showed extreme class and sportsmanship the way she caressed Julie's cheek in the crowning! Pageant watchers can learn a lot from her!
1983 was a very competitive year in the Miss USA pageant. It was one of the strongest in terms of competitors. Any of the top 3 finalists would have made an excellent Miss USA. Plus the production was a lot of fun! I so miss Bob Barker. Not the same without his charm and personality.
I believe the "swimsuit competition" had a blooper or two here. Bob got one of the contestant's names mixed up … and Joan told us the correct contestant's name.

I love pagents in general, and although intelligence should be the most important thing, beauty is also very important, to some degree. All I can say is, you can tell Donald Trump is MOST DEFINITELY NOT IN CHARGE OF THIS PAGENT!!! YIKES!!!
