Former Miss USA Cheslie Kryst looks at eight pageant scenes from popular TV shows and movies and rates them based on realism.

Do pageant entrants use the same beauty tricks and shortcuts as Sandra Bullock in “Miss Congeniality” (2000)? Is judging as transparent as we see in “Parks and Recreation” (2009)? And do contestants fight backstage, as in “Drop Dead Gorgeous” (1999)? Kryst also comments on “Dumplin'” (2018), “Queen America” (2018), “Misbehaviour” (2020), “Beautiful” (2000), and “Tall Girl” (2019).

Kryst is a New York attorney and an Emmy-nominated correspondent at ExtraTV. She runs White Collar Glam, a blog focusing on working attire for professional women. She was crowned Miss USA 2019 and placed in the top 10 in Miss Universe the same year.

  1. From what I’ve noticed, people of first world countries really don’t take pageants seriously because they see it as a “dumb hobby”. But in second/third-world they see it as a sport where women compete to have their voices heard, to advocate. A job application for a woman who’s life will change for the better while bringing pride to whatever countries they’re from.

  2. Miss World 2017 Manushi Chillar from India Gave one of her gowns to Miss South Africa during the competition as her Gown was torn

  3. She's soo sweeett!
I think i kind of have prejudice against pretty girls, i thought they are all shallow & mean. But hey, i forget that i have pretty, down to earth, normal girl friends too❤️

  4. Why don't they interview a Beauty Queen coming from Power House countries like Venezuela, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Colombia, South Africa or Mexico. Then you'll get the realtalk of beauty pageants.

  5. Chelsie is one of my favorite Miss USA! She’s a woman of substance, eloquence, and beauty…an inspiration

  6. I have met some amazing people, in pageants, but I have also met some horrible ones! The "we all love each other like sisters " doesn't happen for all pageants. Miss USA & Miss Universe are very different and little more professional. I have seen a lot of the bad side of pageants.

  7. My old school really sucks when it comes to pageants, instead of taking answers and votes as the contestants points to win but they only take money unlike my new school now and i stopped doing pageants since i'm gaining so much weight.

  8. I would love to see what she thinks about the play School Girls… it deals with really complicated issues in the pageant world, and I personally loved it 🙂

  9. I get what she is saying that there are asked polarizing questions and the contestants are not just beauty queens… however, they still have the swim suit round – why is that needed? No way is it just to judge the design of the swim suit. If I’m wrong there, please, I’m open to learning more and being educated. Thanks xx

  10. Oof drag pageants used to be so ruthless. girls would steal each others items like gowns or props. sometimes they would pay dancers to walk out so when talent comes there's no dancers left. ive heard some girls would put glass in other girls powders. Some pageants would be rigged too.
