They announced an error. Miss America 2011 is the 3rd youngest at age 17. Miss America 1921 was16 when crowned and the youngest was Miss America 1933, Marian Bergeron from Connecticut who was just 15 yrs old when she won.

it looks they are really nice to each other if not really close, but i don't think that's what people could see in the backstage. i've watched other reality shows which feed audiences some backstage stories and this one seems so idealistic compare to those.

As each contestant received a rose, the contestants are kind to each other. They respect one another, for the effort they put into this competition.
Min Maw-05-Murphy: As the contestant were being eliminated, they grew closer to each other. They were hugging each other and smiling to each other. But they could be just acting out in front of the stage.

The second runner up has more of an honor than first runner up as she is pushed aside as forgotten about when the winner is crowned. The second runner up is honored and given time to take in the title at least. What is the symbolism of the flowers and being escorted by a male usher?
Kaikhosroshvili-03-Murphy: I like and totally agree with Lavin's point. It seems like the only way to comfort women who are eliminated is by giving them flowers and walk off the stage with a man. This is a stereotypical view that women find tranquility in men's arms and they cannot handle the situation themselves.
It is also weird how the host congratulates every contestant who leaves the show and is eliminated.
Zhu-05-Murphy: Why is the winner the stereotypical American beauty? She is blonde, tanned and she has perfect white teeth. Why did she win and not a brunette?
Lavin-05-Murphy: Every time a girl was eliminated, she had to wait for a man to take her offstage. Why can't the woman walk off camera on their own? Why does the guy have to lead them?
Pieroni-3-Murphy: Even after a girl is eliminated she she is expected to keep her composure and act like a lady. She has to stay beautiful in the eyes of everyone else even though she is probably devastated.
Wingo-05-Murphy: As the Miss America contestants are being eliminated, they become closer and closer together. Pushing the ladies closer now gives the show a more feminine feel as they are hugging, giggling, and showing emotions. Now the viewer knows they are watching 'Miss' America and are now able to judge the winner; further adding to the conversations that happen after the show.
I just watched the video of her passing her crown to the new Miss America. I think Teresa is prettier than both her predecessor and successor, and moreso than the last 2 Miss USAs as well. It's so lovely that she allows her faith to shine. She needs to go on to do great things.

Miss America from Miss Nebraska wore a wig and so did Top 10 finisher, Miss Delaware.
I found out that Miss America 1970 from Michigan, Pamela Anne Eldred was the first to wear a wig when she won
