The reason why pageantry is unpopular in Japan probably because of their culture. Long time ago they consider Japanese women are inferior to men, even today there are still some parts in Japan that they treat women that way. Although they are now a little bit open to women empowerment it will really take some time for them to fully open up to this idea about women.
Don't forget Philippines also had its time like South Africa from 2010-2015 not only that but with the longest streak from 2010-2021. Philippines still is a country to beat. Hopefully we can send a "fighter" next year.
