STORYLINE
MISS WORLD CONTESTANTS PROVE THEY ARE MORE THAN JUST A PRETTY FACE
Beauty aside, it was time for the women who hope to be crowned Miss World to show off their less obvious talents in South Africa on Sunday (22 NOV 2009).
Contestants performed in a special showcase to share their talents and traditions by singing, doing karate and dancing to an audience of children from various Johannesburg orphanages and schools.
Canada’s entry took to the stage and wowed both the judges and the audience with her impressive opera routine that brought the house down – while the colourful Miss Sierra Leone surprised the audience with her fire eating routine.
The contestants were impressive enough to make it difficult for judges to decide and so the title of Miss World Talent was jointly awarded to Miss Sierra Leone (Mariatu Kargbo) and Miss Canada (Yanbing Ma).
Being named the joint talent finalists guarantees them both places in the semi finals – where they’ll join Miss Japan Eruza Sasaki, who earlier this week was named Miss World Sportswoman, which automatically earned her a place.
