Coming off a disappointing non-placement at Miss Universe 2022, expectations are high for Filipina success in El Salvador. The woman tasked with getting the Philippines back on track and back in the semifinals – at the very least – is none other than Michelle Marquez Dee, Miss World Philippines 2019 and daughter of Miss International 1979, Melanie Marquez.

Having placed Top 12 at Miss World four years ago, Michelle is looking to join Catriona Gray and Andrea Meza as Miss World crossover queens who’ve gone on to win Miss Universe.

What history has Michelle Dee already made, and what more lies ahead? Check out my video right here!

  1. I think this is an easy no. I'm not excited about this one. I think she's only there because she's already somewhat a 'celebrity' – even though she doesn't have anything new to offer. Philipines also tend to recycle their contestants and it gets a bit repetitive. To me it takes away from the real fresh talents that have a real shot at a crown. Perhaps i'll make a bet now that Bagiou will win MUP next year… that's how predictable philippine pageantry is becoming.

  2. Michelle is no Catriona that’s for sure 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m very underwhelmed by her. I just don’t see a “Queen”. She’s more of a princess to me and at this point I wouldn’t be surprised if she goes unplaced as well. It’s still very early and anything can happen but so far I haven’t seen any strong contenders for MU. Albeit only a small group has been crowned

  3. It already happened in the history of Philippine pageant before where CARLENE AGUILAR was crowned MISS EARTH PHILIPPINES 2001 and was also crowned MISS WORLD PHILIPPINES 2005. Catriona came in second to clinched double Alpha pageant in the Philippines and Michelle Dee was the third. 😊

Alpha Pageants: MU, MW, MI, ME

  4. I've been rooting for Michelle since MUPH 2022, and I'm very glad she finally won the right to represent the Philippines for MU 2023. However, as I was assessing her activities lately, I feel like she put herself in a relaxed mode at the moment just because MU 2023 is far around the corner (since the date of the competition hasn't been announced yet). Yes, she is very vocal in her advocacy of autism and mental health awareness, and I deeply appreciate her initiatives to bring the topic of autism and mental health to the forefront. But as I can see, I could see her place in either Top 5 or Top 10 (based on her performance at Question-and-Answer Round at MUPH 2023 finals night). I think she needs to step up her A-game and prepare immensely as she will represent the Philippines in MU 2023. Because at this very moment, the excitement in me for Michelle to place at MU faded away a little bit. If she wants to win the 5th crown for our country and to be on par with former MU titleholders like Catriona, Andrea, Michelle McLean, and Mpule, she needs to give her efforts into training and preparing for the pageant in order to put Philippines back in the winning streak.

But still, my support for Michelle won't change and I have faith that she will make the Philippines place again at semi-finals. I believe in her potential to place in MU because she has the looks and competitiveness. It's just that she must not be laid back (just because MU 2023 is not yet around the corner), prepare and train big enough and continue her advocacy and community work.

  5. Michelle indeed joins Catriona as the Philippine representatives sent to Miss World who went on to Miss Universe. But in terms of Alpha pageants altogether, there are three. Carlene Aguilar was the first Miss Philippines Earth (2001) and then went on to represent the Philippines in Miss World in 2005.
