Title: Works quickly, but a little too light
Review: This root touch-up works quickly, and the brush makes it easy to apply to those difficult greys on my sideburn area. I have dark auburn hair, which is more brown than auburn (L’Oreal 465). It isn’t easy to match my hair color without getting too red or too brown unless I open a box of my regular dye. This was okay for getting a smaller area that my regular hair coloring missed. I found this color to be pretty light despite leaving it on longer than suggested. It covered my grey, but the color was not a great match.

Title: Good match for 6R/Light Auburn Shades, but has more brown, so roots look really natural.
Review: I love this stuff. My natural hair is dark brown with some grays, but the “baby hairs” on my neck and forehead are very light. I dye my hair with “Light Auburn” (Loreal 6R shades), and about 6 weeks later need to re-dye (you can see the brown roots as a distinct line against the red). I used to use the 6R hair color to touch-up (following the “touch-up directions”) but it leaves my hair all the exact same color (the hallmark of home-dying…). If, instead, I use the root touch-up, the effect is different: the root touch-up is just a tad browner than the dye, so at 6-8 weeks after a full dye, when I use the Root Touch Up 6R, rather than just more of the hair dye, my hair looks awesome–very natural (just slightly darker at the roots than the ends). Then, when it grows in, I do NOT have the distinct brown/red line…I can go 6+ weeks without re-dying, or until the grays drive me nuts. I can go almost 3-4 months without doing a full re-dye, but then I CAN (because by then my ends need a boost of red) do a full re-dye without saturating my hair.I have pretty generically brown hair with natural red highlights, pale skin and blue eyes, and have died my hair “Light Auburn” (Loreal 6R shades) for so long everyone thinks I have red hair. Anytime I have tried using any red hair color that mentions brown, such as Loreal’s “6AB Chic Auburn Brown” or “6RB Light Reddish Brown”, the brown deposited so heavily that it really looked fake (the brown will dye the light baby hairs on my neck and forehead, and it looks weird). I find that 6R (no B!) leaves the fine hairs that grown in around my face a light color, not dark, and it looks so much more natural. So I was skeptical about using a root touch-up that mentioned a brown in the name, but because the root touch up is labeled 6R (no B!), I gave it a try. While the root touch up seems darker than the regular hair dye, it does NOT dye the light hairs a dark brown. Yey! When I use the Clairol Root Touch-Up Permanent Hair Color Creme, 6R Light Auburn Brown, on my roots, paired with Loreal’s 6R Light Auburn (Excellence or Preference…doesn’t matter) on my hair, I get a professional-looking, natural look that, when it grows out, does NOT show a line. It may just be my imagination, but the 6R root touch-up is just a hair darker than the 6R hair color, so it is the perfect in-between.

Title: My hairdresser can’t tell my touch up from hers
Review: I found this product during COVID when hair dressers were closed and I needed to touch up my roots. Game changer! This color blends perfectly with my salon color, so I can now stretch my appointments to 3 or 4 months and go when I need a haircut (instead of going more frequently due to color). My hairdresser is impressed with how well it blends. I only do the front and top, so it’s not a replacement for my hairdresser – but I do love that I can stretch the time between haircuts/professional color at a fraction of the cost of a hairdresser.
