Ingredients:

For the Dough:

  • ½ cup milk

  • ½ cup water

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 1 packet (0.25 ounce) rapid-rise yeast

  • 1 large egg

For the Filling:

  • ¼ cup softened butter

  • 1 cup packed brown sugar

  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 3 ounces cream cheese, softened

  • 3 tablespoons butter, softened

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar

Instructions:

  1. Make the dough: In a medium saucepan, combine milk, water, and butter. Heat over medium until the butter melts, then remove from heat and let it cool to lukewarm.

  2. Activate the yeast: Sprinkle the yeast into the lukewarm milk mixture. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  3. Add the wet ingredients: Stir in the egg, sugar, and salt. Mix well.

  4. Add the flour: Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.

  5. Knead the dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.

  6. Let it rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

  7. Prepare the filling: In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon until well combined.

  8. Roll out the dough: Punch the dough down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle, about 12×8 inches.

  9. Add the filling: Spread the softened butter over the dough, then evenly sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture on top.

  10. Roll and slice: Carefully roll the dough from one edge into a tight log, then slice it into 12 equal pieces.

  11. Let them rise again: Arrange the slices in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes, or until they puff up.

  12. Bake the rolls: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the cinnamon rolls are golden brown.

  13. Make the frosting: While the rolls are baking, beat together cream cheese, butter, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar until smooth and fluffy.

  14. Frost and enjoy: Once the cinnamon rolls are baked, remove them from the oven and immediately spread the cream cheese frosting over the warm rolls.
