It's really not all that different to beating someone up to feel better than them, or better than other people who wouldn't be strong enough to, or wouldn't be entitled to do this or able to get away with it. Weird rituals like this are performed to fulfill insecure egos by having something exclusive to you that other people don't have, to counter whatever they have/did that might make you feel small.

I have to ask as I’m not American, why do you have to register your party and why is that then public information? That’s pretty damn personal. In my 52 years I’ve voted between 2 parties and nobody knows it but me. I mean court cases being affected by who you or your representation is should have nothing to do with cases especially that have zero to do with politics. Trump is a private citizen now, this was a SA trial. Politics should not be involved. I just don’t understand how Americans are ok with this when they’re very strong about privacy in other parts of community/life. I’d think voting would be at the top. People can get attacked or pressured or hurt if they don’t vote with their family, church, or other “clubs”.
