Um never seen this . Nice I you never knew
To this day Iβm blown away by this.
I would have loved to have been in Boardwalk Hall that night to see the crowds reaction
Happy 50th birthday, Heather!
The man holding the mic looked teary eyed for sec
I vividly remember watching this and being so in awe of her. It was the most memorable Miss America talent performance I have ever seen in my lifetime. She deserved every bit of that standing ovation! Truly amazing!
One of my favorite things I ever saw in my life! Beautiful!
First time I ever "heard" that connection buzzing in room/head was after reading ur book empathizing with kid across room where it came from who's Grandpa had just died recently. I'll always remember your spirit heather whitestone not just your book about your deaf journey. Your voice is AMAZING πππππππππ
The person I feel sorry for the most is Miss Mississippi π she had to follow her in talent. Everybody probably wasn't paying much attention to itπΆ
I love this song, and Heatherβs performance is so poignant. β€οΈπΆπ©°
I watched her in 1995 and even today as I watch it again I get teary-eyed. I haven't remembered many of the talent performances of previous contestants but I NEVER FORGOT hers!!!
Still a beautiful performance in 2022!!

This happened when I was a kid. I remember getting chills down my spine and being so moved by it even then. To watch it again does the same thing. Just wow.
Broken Walls songs: 1)Beautiful Great One, 2)We Dance Before You, 3)Konoronhkwa(Jesus Is Good Medicine).
Native American Sign Language/Prayer. Look for this video by Kat Livingston. She is also the lady in the video.
Still gives me chills
I watched this amazing performance back in 1995, it gave me chills and I knew she would win that night. I live in Alabama and I am so proud she represented my home state. She is a classy jewel, natural beauty, and so talented. β€οΈπΉ
Here because of Paul Mooney RIP Paul.
I remember seeing this when I was five.
I always thought this was one of the most inappropriate talents for miss America. There's no doubt that Heather was talented, But the dance itself does not match the story in the music. She's flitting around joyful to a song that's about the death of Jesus Christ on a cross. Was all just very weird but of course miss America the time valued such trite.
I remember watching her ballet performance during Miss America 1996, but this is spectacular. You can see how much Regis is in awe after watching this. And I like how she wasn't afraid to display her Christian faith.
Thankful for the tears of joy streaming down my face. If ever there was a moment of undiluted triumph, you just saw it.
Lovely in every way ~
BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL and BEAUTIFUL β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
What a beautiful performance!
I've attended many Miss America Pageants. The applause for her performance was the loudest I have ever heard.
I still remember the pride all Alabamians felt after she won.
Stunning performance. One of the best I've ever seen at Miss America without a doubt.
This performance would likely not be as acceptable today as it is not secular however it was perfectly in line with who she is. Her performance was inspired and moving and deserving of thunderous applause. One of the best overall performances in a pageant that has ever been witnessed.
I can see why she won Miss America!
I remember watching her performance live and itβs stuck with me all these years. She was the pride of Alabama that night!
She is one of my favorite Miss Americas. I never met herI am actually friends with her on Facebook. We chat a lot. I would love to meet her in person maybe someday I will but I love her she is definitely one of my favorite Miss Americas ever she's so beautiful not only on the outside but on the inside as well I remember watching this performance of her on TV what a beautiful talent she has
MISS. HEATHER WHITSTONE. π π π. I WILL NEVER FORGET THIS MAGICAL AND STUNNING DANCE SHE PERFORMED, I CRIED ALL THROUGH THE ORIGINAL AND EVERY TIME I FEEL SAD I WATCH THIS VIDEO FOR INSPIRATION. NO OTHER PERFORMANCE ON ANY PAGEANT WILL EVER TOP THIS! π π π β€ π π π
Easily my FAVORITE most memorable moment/performance at miss America! Loved her then, love her now! Remember watching this and thinking:
Stop everything, no need to continue…. Just crown her now! This was PERFECTION, and the crowd's reaction proves it!
That was beautiful, she is a very talented dancerβ
Her being deaf, I thank God she can't hear the heavy breathing from the horny 40 something guy in the third row,or anyone calling out "Yo, Helen Keller, you're hot!! You're hotter than Marlee Matlin!!!"
I loved it.
I don't like the words "hearing impairment" The deaf/hard of hearing community hurt their feeling.. Please remove "Hearing Impairment" Please be polite to respect deaf community and use correct word "Deaf and Hard of Hearing" Thank you…
Heather got a rare standing ovation from the Miss America fans. Totally deserving. Her talent was stellar, but as a person she is solid gold.
I love that she used her talent to WITNESS TO OTHERS!!! πππ Same for Katie Stam, Miss America 2009!
I know a lot about music, but little about dance…so I can't (and won't) nitpick. What I saw here was beautiful. While she was dancing, I didn't think "this is good for someone hearing impaired", I thought "this is simply beautiful and really emotive."
I still to this day watching that Iβm blown away. I met her when she was Miss America on a speaking tour at my University …… what an awe inspiring moment. What a remarkable person!β€οΈπ
Quite simply one of the most memorable and most moving talent performances I have ever seen in this pageant… 20+ years later and I still get chills
One of the most moving and beautiful performances I've ever seen. I still remember it to this day.
