I cannot praise enough how much Toastmasters has done for me. It's a wonderful organization, with very supportive people. As business manager for an MAO local and an author of a book on pageantry (working on book 2 at the moment), I'll often invite titleholders and local contestants to Toastmasters club meetings to expose them to more speaking opportunities. Yes, membership does cost money, but it's a lot of bang for the buck. What a contestant might spend on a Dale Carnegie course or other professional speaking course, Toastmasters costs a fraction of that. Besides, TM meetings are also lots of fun and a contestant can do A LOT of networking in the process.
I've been in Toastmasters for 14 years, pageantry for 17, and wouldn't trade my experiences for the world!
