Would be great if 60 minutes spent a little more times on stories like this rather than on the non-stop stories about how corrupt our elected officials are in D.C and across our nation. I have spent the last 44 years working with athletes such as Jacob. Every year there are hundreds of stories about young men and women who do not let their disabilities represent and define who they are. If you ever want to do one of these stories, I recommend you stop by the University of Illinois(Urbana-Champaign.) The program at this University has been turning out amazing athletes who every four years make up a large % of the athletes on the US Paralympic Team for the last 73 years. Most of these gifted athletes are members of either the Men's and Women's wheelchair racing or basketball teams. In 2012 Illinois also became the USOPC National Training Center for Wheelchair Racing. We not only turn out world-class athletes, we also produce individuals with a physical disability who go on to pay taxes and work toe to toe in the competitive workplace with their able bodied peers. What I have found most impressive about our program is the fact that we do it with almost zero support from our Division of Intercollegiate Athletics. Thanks for Jacob's story, he personifies to me what is the true heartbeat of our great nation.
Good for him. That “no special treatment” attitude will help him throughout his life. I can see and I wouldn’t have the guts.
