“This week, photos of Korean contestants surfaced online. The photos all seemed eerily similar. Plastic surgery was blamed for these “clone contestants”. If only it were that simple.

It was a Japanese blog, which specializes in translating Korean news, that was one of the first to upload the images. However, when said images reached English cyberspace (via Reddit), these were simply listed as “Miss Korea 2013 contestants”.*

This week, alleged pictures of the 2013 “Miss South Korea” contestants that all looked very similar went viral. But the post didn’t exactly tell the truth. The contestans are competing for “Miss Daegu” and their real appearances aren’t quite what we’ve been led to believe. Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian, and Jimmy Dore discuss.

  1. Most south koreans make fun of anyone who is dark skinned and even Asian Americans. The false beauty standards are dangerous as even kids are going through plastic surgery

  2. She's not really Korean. Her English is perfect with no foreign accent means that she's born or from America. Title of Miss Korea should be given to a native Korean girl.

  3. One thing they failed to mention is that either way because they are Korean they all will look similar/ the same to us. Our brain has an idea of what Koreans look like so, if you don’t know many Koreans, they will most likely look the same. It happens with every group of people. You can even see videos on YouTube where Koreans try to tell westerners apart.

  4. I feel like they could've been more respectful instead of just bashing asians "they all look alike" well isn't that just racist and pointing out that they wanna look like western people, no girl just no.

  5. My question is this. Why does korea need so much plastic surgery? What's wrong with the people to where they feel like they need it? That should be the focus point not the fact that they got it already.

  6. They don't want to look western… as a westerner it makes me cringe hearing people say that. Seriously we should get over ourselves thinking everyone wants to look like us, because they just want to have features that are considered beautiful in their own culture. Yes some of these features are what many westerners happen to have naturally, but Asians have probably found these features beautiful for thousands of years (probably before they even knew white people existed lol).

  7. Asians like other cultures have their own standards of beauty but the individual features must be embraced not looking like clone copies of each other like having the same coin slot nostrils, bleaching the natural skin tone or tanning,or making the eyes appear larger. There should be contests basis on intelligence not beauty maybe it's time to do away with these brainwashing competitions

  8. They might not all look the same but they are trying to go for the same look when they go under the knife. They go after the features they like in certain celebrities. It would not be unusually if they liked the same nose because they choose the nose that most people like to look at. The unintentionally end up looking the same.

  9. I draw portraits & all of these women have their own beauty. They don't look alike at all. I think they are all too thin though. I gave it to whoever is in the red although I don't like her eyebrows, 2nd to Skinny Minnie on the bottom left corner is tied with lime green top in the middle & there is no 3rd 4th or 5th place.
