It's a shame that the pageant is not in Atlantic City anymore. It wasn't just the big night…it was a culmination of all the excitement of the Miss America talent, swimsuit and other things leading up to that point. I say bring it back!
I lived there and can attest that Mississippi has very high percentage of exceptionally beautiful women.
I was born in 1955 and remember so well growing up our family b/w TV always tuned in for this. A lost world.

I remember watching this with my parents. I just turned 13. I had a recognized from the start that she stood out and was special. I thought she was so pretty and being a young girl myself, was a little envious at first but after watching her during the competition, ended up rooting for her as did my parents. For a young girl, she had such a maturity and grace about her which impressed me. I always think of the role models we had growing up, who were positive images of how we should be, unlike what’s out there nowadays.

Welcome to the 1950's folks! An all-white pageant with wedding-cake gowns followed immediately by a commercial. But the tears of joy were real and that song always brings back memories.
Universal Crowns, Due to generous uploads by you, and " Pageants Hayday", we have all of the Miss America Pageants from the Television Era, except for Miss America1956, and Miss America 1957. Do you know anything about the availability of those telecasts, or why they are not available so far? It would be a wonderful privilege to be able to see all of them finally.
