Watched this again. IL certainly was not the best talent, a wonderful and beautiful Miss America, but I still say her sequined coat won the award! Tops in my opinion were LA (not as good as Dianne Evans from Mississippi in 82), UT and I have to say HI. Very good vocal with piano skills but Wisconsin STILL tops!

The pianist this year was hands down…
Wisconsin. The piece was far more difficult and intricate. Marjorie won talent on her elaborate coat! She was good, but did make several mistakes.

CA and IA were the best in this group.
This group's talent winner and that year's Miss America winner…Miss Illinois – Marjorie Judith Vincent…still captivates me. Awesome!

There was some great talent in this years Miss A. After watching all three nights of these talent preliminaries, I would have replaced Pennsylvania and Colorado with Florida and NC. I don’t know how Fla and NC missed a top ten finish. Just my opinion.
