I didn't get why her routine raised the ire in so many. Pageants are corny and outdated. Have you been to one on the local level before they reach the state level?
But now I read about her background. She's pro choice and interned at Planned Parenthood. So the attacks are politically biased. She's skinny with blond hair and blue eyes, but even that isn't good enough. I haven't heard such anger directed at a woman in the entertainment field since the Dixie Chicks.

I think a lot of people are looking too hard into the red cup as her attempt at talent. I had dinner with Kira tonight and her reasoning behind it was excellent in my opinion. It's all about presentation. How many women do you think the judges had to listen to that night? Quite a few at least, but, out of all of those singers, only one had an actual "show" to put on. After listening to dozens of women sing, it's all going to blend together after awhile, so who are you going to remember? The dozen or so women who just stood and sang, or the one women who had a visual gimmick (for lack of a better word) to go along with her song? She set herself apart. Also, after speaking with Kira tonight, it's obvious that she is far away from the stereotype airhead pageant contestant. She's a triple major college graduate, very down to earth and incredibly friendly. Just my two cents. And, for the record, I think this song is terrible haha
