While nations are justifiably proud when they post consistently strong results year on year, the celebrations are arguably just as jubilant when a drought of some sort is broken. That could be a drought – or long period – between placements, or even crowns.

Countries with weaker sashes don’t have the luxury of high expectations and high visibility. Quite often excellent delegates are overlooked, when they might not be if they represented a nation with a stronger sash.

When those countries break through and make the semifinals, or better, it’s truly a great thing to witness. So, in honour of these record-setting, drought-breaking queens, here’s a look at the women who’ve made their countries proud with success, separated by decades.

  1. The Pageant Nerd is the BEST channel for pageant trivias and information. This is very hard to beat as the level of research is so impressive. TPN is like Catriona Gray from Philippines wherein it's so hard to beat her overall performance in Miss Universe.

  2. Hard to believe I’ve been watching Miss Universe for 50+ years. Debbie Shelton was my dentist’s niece, and 1970 was the first year I watched. I didn’t pay too much attention after that until 1976, but have been watching since.

  3. If the Miss Universe 1952 in Long Beach, California was the resumption of Galveston, Texas's Miss Universe 1926 until 1935, TPN's trivia and statistics would have been very different. Austria won Miss Universe 1929. That would be a gap of 93 years quest for their 2nd Miss Universe crown😊😊😊

  4. Hi TPN. It's been a long time since I stop doing trivia about Miss Universe and their delegates. Would you do a video about Miss Universe winners who compete in another international pageant before winning Miss Universe, like Mpule, Lara, and Catriona. etc.

  5. Great Video!! But here I name some mistakes I found:

0:56 Nancy Soto made the top 10, not Top 15

3:25 I don't think England should be consider the same as Great Britain, since til 1989 three of the four constitutive nations of the UK competed completely separately (Scotland, Wales and England). And actually Great Britain's first placement as one solo nation was Amy Willerton. If that's the case, then we should consider 1980 and 1981 Tahiti's placements as French placements. Or Guadaloupe actually competed on last year Miss Universe, since Clemence Botino hails from there.

10:13 Actually Flora Coquerel posted on Instagram a few days after the finals (January 12, 2016), a picture holding a 3rd Runner-Up Crystal Trophy. So, although both 3rd and 4th RU placements weren't awarded during the final telecast, Flora was later awarded the 3rd Runner-Up placement

10:40 I believe the 90's Top 6 placements should also be considered as top 5 placements. Since they were also finalists. So The Netherlands last top 5/6 was 1992 Vivian Jansen and not the 1991 one. Same as Thailand's Gap between 1988 Victory and 2016 Chalita Suansane's Top 6 placement.

  6. This is probably the best analysis of the Miss Universe pageants held over the years. Sadly, you can see in recent years, the pageant gets monopolized by few countries for whatever reason. Sometimes you wander in the future there will only be those 15-20 countries will participate in the Miss Universe, and others will just boycott the whole pageant. In 2017, I can't believe what they did to go from top 16 to top 10. Correct me if I am wrong, I think only in that year they counted online votes to go from top 16 to top 10. What I saw there, the judges were determined to make their own selection. I strongly believe, the MU organization tried to make some changes after taking it from Trump. However, I believe the organization in 2017 got swamped and overtaken by just few countries that everyone knows about, that is out of line when it comes to beauty pageants, demanded the top 16 to count online votes fearing their countries will not make it to the top 10. That was totally unfair for a country such as Sri Lanka, cause the population is so small compared to other countries. I mean you can have just one with highest votes in the top 16, but to go from top 16 to top 10 use online votes and judges choices was totally ridiculous and outrageous. Countries like Sri Lanka are being ignored because of sash factor, only time will tell whether the new organization will make it better or worse for the Miss Universe pageant. Hope for the best, but let see what happens. I am glad Sri Lanka is hosting the Miss Tourism World pageant from December 8 – 20, 2022. This is what countries like Sri Lanka do to showcase what the country is capable of doing in the pageant world. Hope to see a great pageant and a show in Sri Lanka.

  7. Hey, you know what would make a great video? I know your main focus is on Miss Universe but at Miss World, there's been a phenomenon that has happened twice. Both India and Venezuela won many crowns in relatively short spans of times, but they also both had just 1 Miss World titleholder decades before their other victories (Venezuela 1955 ,India 1966,) and now that time has passed they both have one long after the rest (Venezuela 2011, India 2017.) Maybe you can do a video on what may cause the phenomenon and the circumstances surrounded the events, also what caused the early wins then the subsequent gaps etc. I just think it'll be interesting

  8. I love the intro music can you tell which is it?
