I have early favorites but when I saw Miss Universe Italy 2020, Viviana Vizzini, wow, she became an instant top favorite of mine! She's super gorgeous and has an X-factor, she's simply irresistable as what they say in a song. If Miss Universe are still under the Trump era she could win no doubt but with IMG they've been looking for a good speaker just like Catriona and Zozi. I just hope her communication skills are excellent then she's ready to win it! But what I've learned is that she's fluent in Italian, English and even in Spanish language! That is something a plus factor for her! Viva Italia!

Thank you for this! I follow Viviana on IG so will try and forward this to her. As an Italian-American, I'm so sad we've never seen Italy win a MU or MW or really any crown. I'm convinced it's lack of training by the organization. They've had a few diamonds in the rough who occasionally place strictly on their own personalities but the Miss Italy U organization never seems to offer the assistance to help them to the next level. Even though Italy has twice placed as 1srRU, the year they had it in the bag was with Denny Mendez in 1997. She made Top 6 but was winning the scoring in each round. Check her out if you're not familiar. Viviana is such a great candidate and also is very engaging speaking in English in her videos. If we could just send The Sovereign herself to Italy for even just one week, Italy could have their first MU!

MU rumors:
• MU 2020 will be held on May this year & probably be held in the US.
• There won't be a continental divisions. So far there are 66 confirmed contenders with the Americas having almost complete attendance while the other continents have a lot of countries who withdrew from the competition this year. Having those divisions will be unfair and illogical.
• Costa Rica bids to host MU on either 2021 or 2022 edition.
1987 repeat? Chile & Italy in top 2?
FYI, at Miss Universe 1987, Miss Italy Roberta Capua was first runner-up to Cecilia Bolocco of Chile. I don't remember who was the pageant favorite back then. Pageant news just was difficult to find prior to the Internet. At Miss Universe 1997, Miss USA Brook Lee won the crown. But the 2 preliminary favorites were Miss Curacao Verna Vazquez and Miss Italy Denny Mendez. Denny was an incredible candidate, and she made history as the first woman of color to win the Miss Italy crown. It was fairly controversial in Italy at the time. But she was amazingly eloquent in speaking about it at the Miss Universe pageant. There have been a few other Miss Italy candidates who have survived the first cut, in 2008 and 2014.
Viviana Vizzini, Miss Italy 2021 is the candidate that strikes me the most. When I see her, I think about
how I felt watching the journey of Iris Mittenaere, Miss France 2016 as she went on to take the crown of Miss Universe 2016. Viviana has the beauty, body and aura that Iris had. I picked Iris to win literally 8 months before the Miss Universe pageant. She just had "it". And I feel the same way about Viviana. The crown is headed back to Europe.
Only Miss Universe Italy I remember being a contender for the crown was 1994 when she wore the hooded black gown. So excited to see what Viviana can do at the MU stage

I am Filipino but I was born and lived my 22 years in Italy. We’ve never had a Miss Italy reach a high placement at MU and that’s because here beauty pageants are not seen in a good light.Miss Italy are chosen mainly by their looks, and when you ask the contestants why they should be the next Miss Italy, they don’t even know why they’re there competing. None of them even know what an advocacy is. And since beauty pageants were never taken seriously, Miss Italys never had the opportunity to get a proper training.
I don’t know Viviana and I didn’t even know she won Miss Italy, but finger crossed for her and I hope she does great in the stage of MU (:

Omgosh.. this year is just getting tougher & tougher. Europe now has Italy, Romania, France & Czech Rep as my frontrunners!
Potential-wise? Sure. Massive threat. But please let this be the year that Europe actually realizes MU is a COMPETITION and that even they usually are the most conventionally beautiful, that alone is not gonna cut it for them. That's where they are severely lacking – SHOWMANSHIP. That's why it's pretty much been a battle between the Americas and Asia-Africa because Europe usually just relies on pretty. France aside, no one else is really stepping it up. Please let this year be the time they realize that because we all know how many potential queens have been wasted from their continent just because they fail to stand out when it counts.
Last time Italy got placed at Miss Universe is in 2014. Her name is Valentina Bonariva.
