The legendary career of David Morris began in 1951 when, as a young man, he mastered the craft of diamond mounting by apprenticing a leading jeweller. After attending London’s Central School of Arts and Crafts, he qualified as a goldsmith in 1959. Establishing his own jewellery firm in 1962, David Morris became internationally known a year later as he and his design partner claimed the 9th and 10th De Beers Diamonds International Awards, bestowed annually in New York to promote innovative design. The tiara tradition at David Morris stretches back nearly 50 years. After winning De Beers Diamonds Award two years in a row, Morris was commissioned to create the sapphire and diamond tiara worn by the Countess Marie Kinsky of Austria on the day of her marriage to Crown Prince Hans Adam of Lichtenstein in July 1967. And in 1969, Morris was approached by Eric Morley, the founder of the Miss World competition on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen, to redesign the crown for the winner… His magnificent turquoise and diamond creation is the same crown worn by Miss World today.
Miss World crown is ONLY used during the coronation night. It is made of sapphire, diamonds, turquoise, crystal and gold and is insured at over 10 million pounds. It may worth much more today than it did in the 60’s.
Miss World travels during the year with a replica that was valued at 7 billion pounds when it was commissioned in 1973…
