…Miss Florida Came Home to Boca Raton!
“The largest mid-summer celebration ever held in South Palm Beach County*” kicked off on July 29, 1957 when Miss Florida Dorothy Steiner’s helicopter (on loan from megadeveloper Arthur Vining Davis) touched down at the Boca Raton Club Golf Course.
It was a homecoming for Miss Steiner, recently crowned in Sarasota, and her hometown crowd turned out in force with a motorcade to City Hall, where Boca mayor John Shores presented the new Miss Florida with the key to the city.
“The Florida Citrus Queen and a number of other beauties” showed up to “pay homage to the new Queen of Florida.*”
At the 1958 Miss America Pageant, held in Atlantic City on September 7, 1957, Dorothy Steiner was fourth runner-up for the national title. Her talent segment was a dramatic reading, “Such is Your Heritage.”
