Over a YEAR ago, our GENERATOR became a $15,000 PAPERWEIGHT. Now, tons of STRESS and WAY too many $$$ later, the saga finally concludes. The difficult decision has ALWAYS been – how much do we need this? And how much money is it worth to try and resurrect it? We’ve obviously made due over the last year (though occasionally with difficulty) and we’ve made some big system changes going forward. Enjoy!! And be sure to SUBSCRIBE for WEEKLY CONTENT! Cheers!!

  1. Loved the movie clip, my kind of humor! Probably saw whatever movie that was but don’t recall what movie it was. I think you need to use that generator as an anchor now.

  2. We (People who met you at the Annapolis show. My wife "Found You" and thus I got to meet Y'all) were bewailing your plight and saying things like "those poor people", and such like. Just saying…we feel your generator pain. We are just finishing up a multi year boat reconditioning prison sentence…projects that cannot be spoken of in polite company. I think we have now developed a serious allergy to boat projects. At least for a while.

  3. Glad you got some sort of bandaid solution, I am very close o completing my generator issue now. I went with a full engine rebuild right from the start. I sourced a kit for 1000 aussie dollars and had the machining done for another 400 then some paint and sealant another 100. 1500 all in did the assembly myself it was easier than I thought it would be. You could easily do the same thing. but for you it would be like 800 usd.

  4. Hey Cheers Dove Family, I think you could benefit from water turbines, has anyone invented a material that can magnetize with the sea water while moving to store energy. I don't speak engineer language but there is better ways to store those energies and also lots of potential energy with sea water and sunlight . Nikola Tesla water energy storage. Alternating current something I dunno. Peace be with you 🌬️☁️🕊️ I'm happy for your success. God bless you all.
Good job Rivers big boy Teeth 😁

  5. The new alternator may produce more amps at low RPM but also produces a lot of heat.
It is better to run the alternator at higher speed for the simple reason that it needs more air circulation to cool off. If you have a digital thermometer (Infrared) take measurements and monitor for a few months., then compare with the manufacturer specifications. Cheers, Richard

  6. Hi from Portugal! Great videos as always! One question what gear do you use to make video inside of the boat? And you should try to cross Atlantic… Azores… Portugal…

  7. I'm happy to see you are finally juiced up from both the new electrical components and the abundance of passage drinks. Speaking from nearly 50 years in the electrical, electronic and telecommunications biz, electricity is a wonderful thing when readily available and able to do its thang but a hair pulling, life altering, verbiage bending, pain in the ass when not working as it should. I second your attitude toward the physical positioning and wiring of the batteries. Perfection is for those with OCD, close enough is good enough for the rest of us…

Regarding the generator, it has three main components: an engine, the electricity producing alternator and the control/monitoring system. You have given no indication the alternator or control/monitoring system have failed. In my experience, if the control/monitoring system fails repairs are reasonably easy and not a huge financial hit. Major/expensive failures are the engine or alternator. Engine overheating usually has little impact on the alternator unless under heavy load at the time. You might consider swapping out the engine which probably will require removing the generator from its hidey hole but not dragging it off the boat. If you can find someone with the same generator and a failed alternator you might get a good deal on an engine. An engine swap is a project you can do yourself if you take plenty of pictures before removing the old one. It may take some sailing to get to the replacement but that's what you do…

Keep up the great videos and above all STAY SAFE! ⛵❤️😷

  8. Way to go Eric! You have to be an engineer if you are a cruiser. We saw you last In Bequia as we were having a covid test at 0600. Maracudja our Bene 423 has 600watts solar two charge controllers. 140 amp alternator balmar regulator and Honda 2200 to keep 500 amp hour batteries going.

  9. As the infamous Madea would say: “Halleluyer and hell to the yeahass”!!!
Hopefully y’all were able to sell that genie to someone and recoup a bit of the money you’ve spent on it but, if not I think a burial at sea would be appropriate. 😎
