Sri Lanka beauty queen Pushpika De Silva was re-crowned on Tuesday after a controversy unfolded on national TV when the reigning Mrs. World Caroline Jurie took De Silva’s crown off on Sunday, claiming she was ineligible to win the Mrs. Sri Lanka 2021 title as she was divorced.
During the beauty pageant, Jurie was seen spending several moments struggling to remove the crown from De Silva’s head, eventually succeeding and giving the crown to the runner-up. De Silva could be seen rushing off stage in tears.
Officials with the pageant said that there was no legal proof she is divorced and that De Silva has been re-crowned.
“There are lot of mistakes I have made in my life. My life went wrong in ways that I can’t believe. But in all of these occasions, it is my parents who have given me strength,” De Silva said in a press conference after being re-crowned.
De Silva has denied being divorced though acknowledged she is living apart from her partner for “personal reasons.”

Sadly the majority of the country only applaud for the things they see on the surface. They don't bother seeking the truth. If there wasn't any injustice do you think Caroline would risk her title like that? Anyone in the right mind can understand that.
Corruption on these Sri Lankan beauty pageants should be stopped !! Organisers and some judges favour the winners for bribes , political connections and other unlawful benefits in most of these pageants, this should be stopped from the beginning. Caroline has been disagreeing and fighting for the right decision but looks like the organisers and few judges have gone against the rules . However the way it happened is not the right way . This is a good lesson for future pageants to not to be covered with bribes , political connections and other benefits to have a fair competition !! Although just wish that she used a different time, method and a platform to address pageant corruptions. The method she used ended up making her look like the villain and classless while the crime went unpunished. People who love justice will love Caroline..so you’re not alone..and Caroline s crown is worth the whole world as she truly won,not by manipulating or begging or bribing the judges..She won for her capabilities brain and the talents.

As much as I am against the girl who took the crown in the first place, I am also against the woman who accepted the crown. As a woman who supports women, I would’ve said, “I can’t accept this, and neither should anyone else after me. Even if that knowledge is true, that is not a reason to decrown of forbid anyone from winning this award. It is rules like this that we place on women that show us that we are still not created equal. A woman’s marital status or history does not make her invalid or unqualified to present the same duties as myself or others. We still have so much to accomplish when it comes to women’s rights and I think it is changes like this one that will make a great start. Women, we need to stand together and not against one another. Please give this crown back to the rightful owner, the first contestant that was awarded it.”
I could not accept that. How could anyone? Even asides from politics, it’s embarrassing to accept a crown that wasn’t meant to be yours in the first place. You didn’t really win and a crown isn’t going to change that. You weren’t the first choice so why would you accept it? Women like that don’t deserve that title.
