They’re the six biggest international pageants for women. But don’t be fooled – they’re not poor imitations of each other, and they certainly don’t crown the same women.

The “Big 6” – Miss World, Miss Universe, Miss International, Miss Earth, Miss Supranational and Miss Grand International – all have their own unique qualities, and many countries have excelled at some, but not all of them.

This two-part series puts these pageants head-to-head in “The Big 6 Showdown”!

BTW, if you loved the MU 2010 opening number, you definitely need to watch this video! Did someone say “Commander”?!

BEFORE YOU MAKE ANY COMMENTS ABOUT “BIG FOUR” vs. “BIG 6”, PLEASE READ BELOW!

Due to a number of people claiming that “there is only a Big Four” and there is no legitimacy in a “Big 6”, I’ve felt the need to state the following, even though it’s outlined in my videos in this series.

* Having researched this topic extensively – not only in recent months for these videos, but over my time as a pageant fan – I’ve yet to come across any OFFICIAL designation, as agreed by the four pageants themselves, that group them as the Big Four. Yes, the Big Four has managed to have its own Wikipedia page created, but in perusing the attributed sources, the majority of them refer to the pageants as “the four biggest”, or “four of the biggest” pageants. True, there are a couple of media reports that mention the “Big Four”, but I have failed to establish why some people claim that there is the “Big Four” that has been universally and officially adopted, and nothing else.

* The “Big Four” grouping has MU, MW, MI and ME together, with many people criticising my choice of including MS and MGI due to their age. However, if you used longevity as a sign of prestige, you need to look at all six pageants that I have covered and compare their longevity:

* Miss World (1951): 70 years old
* Miss Universe (1952): 69 years old
* Miss International (1960): 61 years old
* Miss Earth (2001): 20 years old
* Miss Supranational (2009): 12 years old
* Miss Grand International (2013): 8 years old

* Based on the above data, you would naturally group Miss Earth with Miss Supranational and Miss Grand International, not with the other three. I’m not saying I do, but it’s unsure why some people call the two youngest pageants “so new”, when Miss Earth is much closer in age to those competitions than it is to Miss World, Universe and International

* Before you make a comment about the “Big Four” being legitimate, and not a “Big 6”, PLEASE WATCH THIS VIDEO! Why? Because, between 2:40 and 4:00, I explain my reasoning for covering these six pageants, where I also say that I respect everyone’s decision to use different classifications, in the absence of a grouping officially sanctioned by the pageants themselves

In summary, I don’t claim that the “Big 6” is a grouping of any substance – I merely chose them because they appear to be the most popular pageants of the moment. All these groupings have been created by and for pageant fans, which is great. However, given there is not an official designation established by the pageants, there is unfortunately no justification to claim that “there is only a Big Four”.

I could’ve also included other long-running pageants such as Miss Intercontinental and Miss Globe, but I haven’t followed them to date so I didn’t have enough knowledge to include them…(read more at source)

  1. Miss Universe is exciting and fast paced; Miss World is so unexciting and boring; Miss International is kind of subdued; Miss Supra is promising; Miss Grand International is flashy and Miss Earth has the advocacy and exciting production. My ranking:
    Miss Universe
    Miss Earth
    Miss International
    Miss World
    Miss Supra
    Miss Grand

  2. I don't love watching these pageants much anymore. I loved them growing up but today, political correctness has ruined them. Having all women judges is a very foolish idea! They don't choose such stunning winners as a mixed panel will.

    Pageants just aren't fun to watch the way that they used to be. By the way, I am only speaking about Miss Universe and to a much lesser extent Miss World. In North America, people really only know about Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss America. We don't really hear about the others but I have gone out of my way to watch them. The best years of pageants were before the 2000s and it has gone downhill since (unfortunately.) I wish it was different!

  3. I know this video is over a year old, but I kinda notice something?

    Could it be worth mentioning that UK-based Miss World has tendencies to favor nations in the British Commonwealth? (India, Jamaica, South Africa… heck, even Bermuda's one win in '79 is noteworthy.)

    Could we also say something similar with US-based Miss Universe heavily favoring countries within the USA's sphere of influence, especially in recent decades? (Puerto Rico being a US territory, Philippines being a former US colony, Mexico and Canada being literal neighbors.)

    This is merely based on which countries get their respective pageant's top title more often, not necessarily placements, which would take up a lot more time for me to process. x_x

  4. The only pageant that Philippines has never won is the Miss Grand International that says in this video. Because the founder Nawat doesn't want the Philippines to wear the crown and I hated the pageant cuz the rules is made by him not the judges themselves. They placed 1st runner up twice 2016 & 2020 more than the others countries that participated.

  5. Philippines is not generous to its own representatives but contestants from the philippinnes deserves more than other constestants every year… watch them and see for yourself

  6. In my honest opinion Miss Universe and Miss World are on a different level. Nothing is close to these two alpha pageants. Among them Miss Universe is far ahead of Miss World.

    The Rest of the four are different in their own way. Miss Supranational and MGI are very promising. Many national pageant organizations have the two franchises. Spectacular production and classy finale. If they get international media coverage, there will be no stopping for the two.

    Then comes other two, Miss Earth is better than Miss International. Their advocacy is their saving grace. Miss Earth used to have cool finale events but its now going downhill. Miss International has lots of flaws. The only saving grace is its legacy. It seems the pageant is past its prime.

    My Ranking is
    1. Miss Universe
    2. Miss World
    3. Miss Supranational
    4. Miss Grand International
    5. Miss Earth
    6. Miss International

  7. The Best Opening Dancer
    1. Miss Universe 2010

    4. Miss Supranational 2019
    5. Miss World 2019
    6. Miss International 2019

  8. Amazing video!!! I love the analysis and how you presented the facts. 💚💚💚 My top favorites from thess 6 pageants are Miss Universe and Miss Earth because of the exciting finals night. I find the competition and judging transparent in these two.

  9. The Philippines won Miss World, Miss International, and Miss Supranational all in the same year in 2013. It’s also the only country today to have had a 6 consecutive year streak of winning all 4 major international pageants! 2013-2018. ❤️

  10. Miss Universe – the best pageant overall ❤️
    Miss World – not a fan, but it’s a “classic”
    Miss International – longest shows (4 hours) 💀
    Miss Earth – consistent with their advocacy
    Miss Supranational – very flashy
    Miss Grand International – most exciting production
